Grandvalira or Vallnord, arriving without a car, skipass prices and the tricks of weekly regulars.
Grandvalira or Vallnord
Grandvalira is the big domain: 200+ marked kilometres between Soldeu, El Tarter, Canillo, Encamp, Grau Roig and Pas de la Casa, for every level and with the best March snow. Vallnord (Arcalis + Pal-Arinsal) is more family and tree-lined, better with kids and on foggy days.
Arriving without a car
There is no train or airport in Andorra: from El Prat it is 200 km of mountain (2 h 45 - 3 h 15 by transfer, 260-330 EUR per vehicle). The transfer beats the rental car when snow is coming (chains, winter and resort parking solve themselves) and the bus if you travel with gear: the board and skis do not fit a full bus hold.
Prices and tricks
The day skipass hovers around 55-65 EUR in high season; early or spring season drops below 40. Book the transfer for 7:00 from Barcelona and you return after slopes close. Tuesdays and Wednesdays have half the queues of the weekend, and in January the slopes are empty after the first fortnight.
