Wine route

DO Emporda: garnacha with sea views.

The Emporda produces wines since the Romans: garnacha and carinena on sandy soils between the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean. These are the five visits worth the trip.

Emporda vineyard with stone winery at golden hour
Garriguella · 15 min from Figueres

Emporda Wineries (Garriguella)

The classic visit: modernist cellar, DO Emporda wines and views of the sierra.

Perelada · 12 min from Figueres

Perelada (castle and casino)

The flagship: signature winery, casino and a starred restaurant in a 14th century castle.

Sant Climent · 20 min from GRO

Terra Remota (Sant Climent Sescebes)

Award-winning architecture among garnacha vineyards: visits with blind tasting.

Vilajuiga · 8 min from Roses

Mas Llunes (Vilajuiga)

Garnachas as always in a family farmhouse: the tasting with house pa amb tomaquet.

Pau · on the way to Cadaques

Cols de Serra (Pau)

Small, organic and dry-farmed: by appointment and tasting with the winemaker.

Tasting without driving

The wineries are spread between Figueres, the coast road and the Girona north: no public transport links them. The classic plan is a half-day route with two or three visits and lunch at a farmhouse restaurant — a scheduled transfer with a driver waiting at each stop is the safe (and legal) way to enjoy it.

Best months: April-June and September-October (harvest). Most visits require prior booking.
